The filet mignon is much, much more than just a fancy steak. It is tender, delicious and much less expensive to make at home.
The filet mignon is an elegant steak with fork-tender texture and mild flavour. It’s the steak that you choose for special occasions. A steak that’s designed to impress. It is consider the supreme steak because of its “melt-in-your-mouth” texture.
Filet Mignon, as you might have guessed it, comes from French. ‘Filet’ refers to the thread and ‘mignon’ means small and cute. This cut comes from the middle of the tenderloin. Filet Mignon steaks are usually 1 to 2 inches thick and 2 to 3 inches in diameter, and are naturally rounded. Although very tender, filet mignon is not as flavoured. This is the reason why it is often served with sauce or wrapped in bacon. It can also be marinated or seasoned with a rub.
Cooking it is easy and comes with a few options: grilling, broiling, roasting, and pan-frying. One of our favourite recipes is bacon wrapped filet mignon. It is also one of the easiest ways to add flavour to the steak. To avoid having the trouble of wrapping the steak, ask our staff for the “ready” bacon wrapped steak. Enjoy!
